Caption: Maurice Godelier (born 1934), French anthropologist. Godelier is best known as one of the earliest advocates for the incorporation of Marxism into anthropology, and his work among the Baruya people of Papua New Guinea across three decades, from the 1960s to 1980s. He is director of studies at the French 'School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences' (EHESS,Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales) and is one of France's foremost anthropologists. Photographed in Paris, France, on 18th April 2008.
