Caption: Paragonimiasis life cycle. Diagram showing the life cycle of the parasitic fluke Paragonimus westermani, one of the causes of paragonimiasis. The worm has two intermediate hosts, water snails and crustaceans. It infects humans when they consume raw or undercooked crustaceans. Initial symptoms include abdominal pain and diarrhoea, followed by fever, cough and chest pain when the adult flukes migrate to the lungs.
