Caption: Orthoceras fossil. This extinct marine nautiloid cephalopod is related to the squid and octopus. It lived during the Devonian period (around 360-410 million years ago) and has been found in Europe, North Africa and North America. Its name means 'straight horn' in reference to its elongated cone shape.
