Caption: Jodrell Bank Observatory, Cheshire, England, on a moonlit night. At right is the Lovell radio telescope. The dish of this radio telescope has a diameter of 76 metres. Formally known as the Mark IA, it was commissioned in 1957, with improvement works carried out in 1970-1. It was the first large-dish radio telescope in the world.
