Caption: Test tube meniscus. Liquids in laboratory glassware will form a meniscus on the surface. This is due to capilliary action which in the case of water draws the liquid upwards against the glass and lowers the central level. This results in a concave meniscus. Other liquids may form the opposite shape, known as a convex meniscus. This is a concave meniscus.
