Caption: Plant cell wall. Diagram of the processes involved in the formation of the cell wall in a plant cell. The cell wall in plants is made from cellulose, a sugar polymer (polysaccharide) of glucose. The molecular structure is at upper right. Increasing polymerisation forms fibres, that form mats, which form the layers found in the cell wall (sequence at top, clockwise from lower right to upper right). The formation of these layers is shown across bottom, with the middle layer (lamella, yellow) forming first. At lower right is the process of forming a new cell wall from a cell plate during cell division. The inset shows the same central layer (yellow).
