Caption: Natalia Petrovna Bekhtereva (1924-2008), Soviet neuroscientist, neurophysiologist and psychologist, giving a lecture in a laboratory. At right is an X-ray of a subject's head with various electrodes attached. Bekhtereva became Director of the Soviet Institute for Experimental Medicine from 1970 to 1990. Her work involved measuring neuron impulse activity in the brain. She was elected to the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1981. Her awards include the American Society for Cybernetics' Wiener Medal (1972) and the USSR State Prize (1985). Photographed in 1966, in the Institute for Experimental Medicine, Leningrad (St Petersburg), Russia.
