Caption: Eroded farmland. Plough lying on heavily eroded farmland during a period of drought. This farm is in Jackson County, Alabama. The date is April 1937, a time when many US rural communities were still suffering the effects of the Great Depression. This image was obtained by US photographer Arthur Rothstein (1915-1985) while working for a US government photography project that documented everyday American life between 1935 and 1944.
