Caption: Animation of a population of subatomic particles, showing their symbols and varying sizes and masses. In July 2017, the Large Hadron Collider at CERN announced the discovery of yet another addition to the particle zoo: the double charmed Xi baryon. This particle comprises one up quark and two charm quarks, giving a charge of +2. It is a baryon, analogous to a proton, which is made up of two up quarks and a down quark, but is nearly four times as massive as its more familiar cousin.
