Caption: Ensisheim meteorite fragment. Piece of the Ensisheim meteorite that fell on 7th November 1492. This was the earliest recorded European meteorite. It fell near Ensisheim, a town in Alsace which is now in France and was thought to have weighed almost 130 kilograms, of which a 55 kg mass remains. The meteorite was a stony chondrite type; chondrites make up about 86% of the solar system's meteorites.
