Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Witness of Gagarin's first spaceflight. This woman, Baba Lida, was one of two schoolgirls to witness the landing of the Vostok 1 spacecraft carrying Yuri Gagarin on the first manned spaceflight. The flight of 12th April 1961 lasted 108 minutes, during which time Gagarin made one complete revolution round the Earth in the Vostok 1 spacecraft. He landed safely 26 kilometres south west of Engels, in the Saratov region of Russia. Photographed in Smelovka, Russia.
