Caption: Sociable weaver's nest. The sociable weaver (Philetairus socius, one at upper centre) builds large communal nests. Up to 400 birds can inhabit a single nest, which provides shelter from the extreme temperatures of their savannah habitat. The nest is thatched (not woven) from grass, straw and twigs. Photographed in South Africa, in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
