Caption: Puff adders (Bitis arietans) mating. This venomous snake is found through most of Africa, apart from the Sahara. Mating involves the female emitting a pheromone that attracts males. Actual mating involves internal fertilisation, where the reproductive organs on the male's tail are placed inside the female's posterior opening (cloaca). Photographed in West Coast National Park, Western Cape, South Africa.
