Caption: Inside the Great Pyramid. Western explorer and a local guide carrying torches inside the Great Pyramid in Egypt. This artwork is from the work 'Journal of a route across India, through Egypt, to England' (1819) by George Augustus FitzClarence (1794-1842), eldest of the illegitimate children of King William IV. FitzClarence travelled this route in 1817 and 1818 while carrying dispatches for the East India Company. This internal chamber, one of several, was discovered by Captain Giovanni Battista Caviglia in 1807.
