Caption: Wolfgang Panofsky (1919-2007), German-US particle physicist, with the son of the Russian physicist Alexander 'Sasha' Skrinsky. Panofsky was the first director of SLAC (Stanford Linear Accelerator Laboratory) at Stanford University, California, USA, and was a great promoter of high energy physics. He also played important roles in arms control, international security policy, US government science policy and international scientific collaboration. Photographed in Novosibirsk, Russia.
