Caption: Midget submarine, World War II. US Navy divers and crewmen of the USS Ortolan securing a Japanese midget submarine. This midget submarine was raised after being sunk off Guadalcanal, the Solomon Islands, in the Pacific Ocean. It was designed for a crew of two. The USS Ortolan raised this midget submarine in May 1943, and towed it to Numea, New Caledonia, by June 1943.
