Caption: Preparing for chromate ion equilibrium experiment. The technician pours a yellow solution of chromate ions (CrO4 2-), which is in equilibrium with dichromate ions (Cr2O7 2-), into a beaker. The chromate form dominates in alkali conditions. When acid is added the position of the equilibrium shifts towards the dichromate form, which is orange in solution. See clip K002 9074 for this demonstration.
