Caption: Brain cells. Fluorescence light micrograph of activated microglial cells (stained for membrane co-factor protein, yellow) and oligodendrocytes (stained for myelin basic protein, red). The main function of oligodendrites is the insulation of the axons in human nerve cells. Microglia are phagocytic macrophage white blood cells that are the main form of immune system in the central nervous system (CNS). Magnification: x40 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
