Caption: Polar bear traps. These traps are used in the Canadian Arctic to catch polar bears (Ursus maritimus). The polar bears trapped here are those that forage in coastal towns looking for food when the sea ice has melted. As they can be a threat to humans, they are kept in the steel shed seen behind the traps until the sea ice reforms when they are released. The polar bear, the world's largest land predator, is found throughout the Arctic circumpolar regions. Photographed in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada.
