Caption: Brain and vision. Artwork of a man's head showing the regions of the brain (coloured, rear of brain) involved in processing the sensory data received from the eyes (one eye and optic nerve at left). The skull, upper spine, and the rest of the brain are also shown, including the cerebellum (pink) at the rear base of the brain. The visual cortex is located in the occipital lobe, and consists of the primary visual cortex (striate cortex), as well as other areas called the extra-striate cortex. These different regions are termed V1, V2, V3, V4 and V5.
