Caption: Moon's northern hemisphere. Mosaic image made of 18 frames taken by the Galileo spacecraft. The Earth-facing side of the Moon is at top. Major dark features at top are the Mare Imbrium basin (far right), and Mare Serenitatis (upper right centre) connected to Mare Tranquilitatis to its left. At upper left is the circular Mare Crisium, surrounded by bright highlands. The data for this image were gathered by the Galileo spacecraft during its second gravity-assist fly-by of the Earth. Galileo's final destination is the planet Jupiter. Imaged on 7th December 1992.
