Caption: Joseph Leidy (1823-1891), American paleontologist. Leidy was professor of anatomy at the University of Pennsylvania, USA, and later a professor of natural history at Swarthmore College. In 1869 he described a number of previously unknown extinct species in his book 'Extinct Fauna of Dakota and Nebraska'. He also named a number of fossil specimens, including Hadrosaurus foulkii.
