Caption: Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820), English naturalist and botanist. Banks took part in Captain James Cook's first great voyage (1768-1771). This engraving is after a portrait by English portrait painter Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830), and shows Banks wearing the insignia of the Order of the Bath (1795) and states that he is a baronet (Bart, 1781) and President of the Royal Society (PRS, 1778).
