Caption: Herman Boerhaave (1668-1738), a Dutch physician, botanist and humanist. Boerhaave is regarded as the founder of clinical teaching and of the modern academic hospital. The Latin inscription across bottom refers to his fellowships of the Royal Society of London and the French Academy of Sciences. This print was produced in the period 1793-1832 by the London printer Carrington Bowles.
