Caption: William Hunter (1718-1783), Scottish anatomist and physician. Hunter, together with his brother, John, founded the first school of anatomy in London. His published works included studies on human teeth and the pregnant uterus. This portrait was by J. Thornthwaite and dates from around 1780.
