Caption: Edward Blyth (1810-1873), English zoologist and pharmacist. This photograph was taken in Dublin, Ireland, in 1864. The handwritten note refers to his position as curator of the museum of the Royal Asiatic Society of Bengal, in Calcutta, India, a post he held from 1841 to 1862, when ill-health forced him to return to the UK. Much of his work in India was on ornithology.
