Caption: Tantalite, a mineral close to niobite-columbite, chemical formula ((Fe,Mn)(Ta, Nb)2O6). The two are often grouped as a semi-singular mineral called columbite-tantalite or coltan. Tantalite is black to brown in colour and streak, used an ore of tantalum and niobium. From Namaqualand in South Africa. Size 40mm.
