Caption: Hummingbird museum display. This display is part of a series of 24 custom-made cases displaying stuffed hummingbirds. They were built by the British ornithologist John Gould (1804-1881) for an exhibition in 1851. Gould was Curator and Preserver for the Museum of the Zoological Society of London. The labels seen here identify the species Agyrtria leucogaster, Agyrtria viridiceps, and Agyrtria candida. The cases are now part of the collections at the Natural History Museum, London, UK.
