Caption: Robotic kidney removal surgery. Laparascopic image of surgery to remove a cancerous kidney from a 40-year-old man with a transitional cell carcinoma (TCC, cancer) of the bladder. This procedure is using laparascopic (keyhole) surgery performed by a Da Vinci robot surgeon. This remote controlled surgical system has four robotic arms (one at centre right) that are controlled by a specially trained surgeon from an ergonomically designed console using remote joysticks. Here, the ureter (upper centre) is being dissected and isolated so it can be cut.
