Caption: Theodore Tronchin (1582-1657), French theologian. Tronchin was a Calvinist protestant minister who represented Geneva at the Synod of Dort. From 1606 he was professor of Oriental languages at Geneva Academy (the future University of Geneva), and was later professor of Hebrew. This copy of this artwork is from 'Histoire de l'Universite de Geneve' (1900) by Charles Borgeaud. The original artwork dates from 1657. The inscription gives the Latin form of his name and states that he is in his 76th year. It also states that he is a theologian at the Geneva Academy, and it also names him as a professor and ecclesiastical minister.
