Caption: Tick, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Ticks (superfamily: Ixodoidea) are small arachnids. They are ectoparasites, feeding on the blood of mammals, birds, and occasionally reptiles and amphibians. This tick was found in cold waters, an example of ticks being able to tolerate extreme conditions worldwide, such as dryness, cold, high radiation, and high pressure. Ticks are often spread by migratory birds.
