Caption: German cockroach (Blattella germanica). Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a German cockroach. Despite their name, German cockroaches are not native to Germany, but instead originated in warmer areas. This species infests households and is considered a major pest. They are thought to contaminate food with pathogenic organisms and feed on a wide variety of items, including non organic items such as toothpaste and books. Magnification x13 when printed 10 cm wide.
