Caption: Hurricane research. Chart showing the path of a hurricane over the sea and the course taken by a research ship sailing around it. The hurricane's path is shown by a series of straight lines, the ship's path with observations of the wind speed by the curved path. At lower right are derived courses, correcting for the motion of the hurricane, that show the spiral nature of the winds. This was first published in 'Whirlwinds and Dust Storms of India' by P. Baddeley in 1860.
