Roman mosaic of gladiators. Mosaics consist of small pieces of coloured glass or stone, used to form an image or pattern on a floor or wall. This mosaic is from the Roman villa in Bignor, West Sussex, UK. This villa, which was an extension of an earlier farmstead, dates from the 3rd century, towards the end of the Roman occupation of Britain. The site was discovered in 1811, with further excavations taking place in the 20th century.
