Caption: Volt future aircraft. Computer artwork of the Volt twin-engine Subsonic Ultra Green Aircraft Research (SUGAR) concept aircraft. This passenger aircraft uses a hybrid propulsion system that combines gas turbine and battery technology. It was designed by a team led by The Boeing Company, and was presented to the NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate in April 2010, for its NASA Research Announcement-funded studies into advanced aircraft that could enter service in the 2030-2035 timeframe.
