Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Wheelchair rugby player handling the ball. Wheelchair rugby is a sport played in wheelchairs by two teams, each team aiming to get the ball into the opposition goal. It originated in Canada in 1977, and since 2000 has been part of the Paralympics. Originally called murderball, it is a contact sport, with the wheelchairs designed for collisions. Wheelchair rugby is played by some 26 countries around the world, with eight national teams competing at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
