Caption: Animation of fishing by bottom trawling using a dragnet. In this technique, a weighted open-mouthed net is dragged behind a boat across the seabed, capturing fish and other animals that it disturbs or passes through. The net is then hauled aboard with the fish. This technique is deployed to catch bottom-dwelling and demersal fish, such as halibut and cod. It is a controversial technique, as the net can severely damage the seabed environment.
