Caption: Photographic dark room. This room is used to process photographic negatives, so it must be kept dark. A variety of chemicals are used to process the photographic plate and fix the image, depending on the exact method used. Once fixed, the negative can be exposed to light, but until then it is sensitive to light, allowing images to be recorded by exposure to light in a camera. Artwork from the eighth volume (second period of 1891) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree'.
