Caption: Weather instruments at Kew Observatory, Old Deer Park, Richmond, London, UK. Stretched wire and valve electrometer, measuring the electricity potential gradient of the atmosphere. Workshops and the main observatory building are in the background. Kew Observatory, established in 1769, was an astronomical and geophysical observatory. It included equipment operated by the Met Office, the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. Meteorological and magnetic observations were carried out here until 1980, when the Met Office facilities were relocated. Photographed on 22 February 1967.
