Caption: Lead iodide formation. This bright yellow precipitate of lead (II) iodide can be formed by reacting colourless solutions of lead (II) nitrate and potassium iodide. The formation of precipitates such as this is a common test for the halide ions (mostly iodides, chlorides and bromides). Similar tests can be carried out using silver nitrate solution.
