Caption: Russian cosmonauts in the Sahara. Andriyan Nikolayev (1929-2004) and Valentina Tereshkova (born 1937) on camels in the Sahara Desert, during their trip to Algeria. Nikolayev flew on the Vostok 3 and Soyuz 9 spaceflights. Tereshkova was the first woman in space, making her only flight on the Vostok 6 mission of 16-19 June 1963. They were married from 1963 to 1982. Photographed in Algeria, on 20th August 1965.
