Caption: Tereshkova and Khrushchev. Valentina Tereshkova (born 1937, left) and Nikita Khrushchev (1894-1971, right) on the mausoleum rostrum after the completion of the Vostok-5 and Vostok-6 space missions. Tereshkova was the first woman in space, making her only flight on the Vostok 6 mission of 16-19 June 1963. Khrushchev led the Soviet Union during the Cold War. He was First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1964, and Chairman of the Council of Ministers, or Premier, from 1958 to 1964. Photographed in Moscow, Russia, on 22nd June 1963.
