Caption: Astronauts Tereshkova and Sharman. Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova (born 1937, right) seeing off British astronaut Helen Sharman (born 1963, centre), as the Soyuz TM-12 crew departs for the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Tereshkova was the first woman in space, making her only flight on the Vostok 6 mission of 16-19 June 1963. Sharman is a British chemist and was the first Briton in space, visiting the Mir space station aboard Soyuz TM-12 in 1991. Photographed in Moscow, Russia, on 30th April, 1991.
