Caption: Chinstrap penguin (Pygoscelis antarctica) colony. Many of these penguins are breeding and have chicks at this time of year, late in the Antarctic summer. This penguin lays a clutch of two eggs, hatching chicks of nearly equal size that both survive. The chicks are fed on food that is regurgitated by their parents, and become independent at about 60-70 days old. Photographed on Half Moon Island, off the Antarctic Peninsula.
