Caption: An African/Asian tropical landscape. Reproduced in Lubach and Logeman's "Panorama der Bewoonde Aarde" (Panorama of the Inhabited World) 1851. This hand tinted folding lithograph references a series of 18th century wall charts designed for schools teaching in Europe. Many of the animals are drawn from even earlier designs that can be dated back to Conrad Gesner's influence in the 16th century.
