Caption: SPOT 5 satellite, artwork. SPOT 5, launched by the European Space Agency in 2002, is part of the SPOT (Satellite Pour l'Observation de la Terre) family of satellites. The SPOT satellites are operated by a company created by the French space agency (CNES). The SPOT 5 satellite improved on the first four SPOT satellites with the addition of the HRS (high-resolution stereoscopic) and HRG (high-resolution geometric) sensors and increased image resolution. SPOT 5 traces a polar orbit at an altitude of 822 kilometres, orbiting the Earth every 101 minutes and taking 26 days to map the entire Earth. Here, it is over the Arabian Peninsula.
