Caption: Hindenburg crash. The LZ 129 Hindenburg airship bursting into flames on the 6th May 1937. The airship was just about to land at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, New Jersey, USA, after a transatlantic flight. Of the 97 crew and passengers on board 35 were killed, along with one member of the ground crew. The cause of the accident has never been established. The balloon was filled with hydrogen, a highly flammable gas.
