Caption: Spektr-R space telescope preparations. Engineers integrating the Russian Spektr-R radio space telescope with its launch vehicle. This is taking place at the integration and test complex of Launch Pad 31 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. This photograph was taken on 4 July 2011, and the launch on a Zenit-3F rocket took place on 18 July 2011. Spektr-R, part of the Radioastron programme, is studying objects in radio wavelengths with a resolution far higher than previous telescopes. This high resolution is achieved by combining orbital observations with ground-based telescopes and using interferometry methods.
