Caption: Surface of Titan. Stereographic (fish-eye) views of Titan's surface as obtained by the European Space Agency's Huygens probe on 14 January 2005. Huygens arrived at Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, after a seven-year voyage from Earth. These images were taken during the 3-hour parachute descent by the Descent Imager/Spectral Radiometer (DISR). They show the surface from 6 different altitudes. The upper left image also shows the haze layer at around 20 kilometres altitude. Titan's atmosphere is mainly nitrogen with clouds of methane and ethane. The surface is a mixture of water and hydrocarbon ice.
