Caption: Francesco Guicciardini (1483-1540), Italian historian and statesman. Born in Florence, the circular inscription states that he is a historian and patrician of that city. The three horns of the family coat-of-arms are at top. Guicciardini's major work was 'Storia d'Italia' (History of Italy, 1537-1540). This covered the history of Italy in the period 1494 to 1532. This artwork is from a 1775 edition of another of his works 'Della historia d'Italia'.
